skyblock.matdoes.dev has shut down

2019 - 2024

After running this website for just over 5 years, I'm finally shutting it down. Hypixel has removed the old version of the SkyBlock API that I was using, and I decided this is a good excuse to end the maintenance-only mode the website's been in for years. I have very little motivation to keep it updated, as I haven't played SkyBlock in years and have distanced myself from the community.

I originally created the first version of the website (and started playing SkyBlock) on the day that the API was released, and I've spent at least hundreds of hours updating the website since. It's gone through several rewrites as I learned more about software development (and in fact I almost rewrote the backend again last year before deciding against it). However, the website has slowly been deteriorating, with the AH price checker, bazaar history viewer, fake chat generator, and the NPC skin stealer no longer working as they once did. Even the main stats viewer has become unstable, as API ratelimit restrictions got tighter.

It's been really fun, though. I made many friends through SkyBlock and developed dozens of projects related to it (I had things like a private AH flipper before anyone else made one). Lots of features on the website were directly based off of suggestions from other people, and things like the backgrounds on the site were mostly taken by other players. For some time I owned a Discord server focused around SkyBlock and the Hypixel Forums, which was an interesting and memorable experience. Honestly though, my favorite moment from running this website was when it was shown in a Technoblade video for about two seconds, that made me so happy.

Thanks to everyone who used the website, it would've been a lot less interesting if no one cared :). And of course, thanks to everyone who donated so I wouldn't be hosting the website at a loss. I would've shut down the website earlier if it wasn't for y'all.
